i remember the first time i saw sleater-kinney live was on their ‘one beat’ tour on september 14, 2002 at emo’s in austin, tx. the quails opened (seth’s band at the time). it was such an amazing show, and gave me some solace during a really difficult period in my life. they played ‘get up’, a song that so many years later, still gives me goosebumps. if not for their music, and particularly seeing that live show, i may not have been one of the founding members of the girls rock camp houston (among other things). i love that almost ten years later, seth and corin have come together and started the corin tucker band. it’s a pretty good feeling when music from my younger days continues to follow me, still bringing me solace and joy.
